Healthcare is an issue that affects all children. Paediatrics deals with the prevention, diagnosis, investigation and treatment of medical conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents, from birth to 16 years of age.
For many children, a visit to their GP usually occurs just now and again. Children with specific health conditions such as asthma may visit us on a more regular basis. All of our GPs have worked in paediatric hospitals as part of their General Practice training.
Our Paediatric services include;

Before you start trying for a baby we can offer preconception care. We can help you assess your health, fitness and lifestyle, to identify areas that you may want to improve.
Preconception care is particularly important if you have a pre-existing medical condition such as diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, mental illnesses etc. We can advise you on how to minimise the effects of the pregnancy on your illness and if there are any changes in your medications required prior to conception.
All women ordinarily resident in Ireland are entitled to free antenatal care under the mother and child scheme. This is a Combined Antenatal Care (CANC) scheme whereby your GP provides care in association with the hospital obstetrical services.
If you are pregnant we advise you to make an initial booking appointment with the GP, where your programme of care will be outlined.
The Combined Antenatal Care scheme extends to the postnatal care of the mother and baby immediately after childbirth, to include two routine check-ups for the infant at 2 and 6 weeks, along with a 6 week review for the mother.
The Primary Childhood Immunisation programme is commenced in the surgery when your baby is 2 months old. Immunisation is a safe and effective way to protect your child against serious disease. Vaccines are given at an early age because young babies are most vulnerable to these diseases and need to be protected as early as possible.
Did you know your child needs 5 visits to the GP to be fully vaccinated?

Menopause is when a woman stops having periods completely. It is a natural part of ageing. The GP can usually confirm if you're menopausal based on your symptoms. They may suggest a blood test to check your hormone levels. If you are finding your symptoms particularly difficult, speak with the GP as they will be able to help you and can recommend treatments. For more information on menopause, click here.
A cervical screening test is a test to check the health of your cervix. It is not a test for cancer, it is a test to see if you are currently at risk of developing cancer. If you are between the age of 25 and 65, this test is free once you are registered. You should attend for your routine cervical screening when it is due.
